A TWO-DAY INTENSIVE LEARN TO SURF PROGRAM...
Learning to surf can be scary, intimidating & and let's face it; just damn hard. In fact with so many variables at play in the ocean it’s no wonder people struggle, with many never even giving it a go at all.
And that’s where we step in…
At the House of Surf we understand how daunting it can be taking those first steps into a whole new environment, with all of those dreaded feelings of embarrassing yourself, not knowing what to do, and fears of looking silly.
BUT DON'T WORRY, WE'VE CREATED THE PERFECT LEARNING ENVIRONMENT FOR YOU:
An intensive two-day program, taking a small group of likeminded women - at the same stage in the learning cycle - through a hyper-structured program where you’ll learn exactly what you need to know - at the right time, and in the right order - to empower you with skills to progress as quickly as possible.
Through our detailed progression roadmap our first class surf instructors will breakdown all of the technical, complicated surf jargon and deliver it to you in a step by step format that’s super easy to follow, all in a 100% non-judgemental learning environment.
Technical surfing, taught simply!
And if that’s not enough, we have a fully fledged online learning portal - with detailed breakdowns, home workouts & practices - that compliments everything you'll be learning throughout the weekend, and a boat load more.
Yours to keep, to take away with you to practice and refine your skills

WHAT TO EXPECT
As a beginner surfer, we start the program with the basics.
We’ll help you get up to speed quickly with all the complex terminology, and teach you everything about equipment, etc. to get you over that first hurdle, and give you that initial key knowledge to get you out of that absolute beginner stage.
From here, we then set out on our technical roadmap to teach you through our system.
Step by step you’ll be guided through our signature five-step progression journey to build a solid, technical skillset and help you progress to the next level.
With the carefully crafted program material each session will build upon the last.; with multiple in-water sessions with your group, in depth theory breakdowns, alongside online learning lessons and home practice routines to take away with you.
AND BY THE END OF IT...
…You’ll have the skillset needed to:
All with the correct fundamentals right from the off-set.
This is just the start of your surfing journey, and we’re here to help you every step of the way.
YOU'LL LEARN:
BUT THAT'S NOT ALL...
NON JUDGEMENTAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
We understand how it feels to start a whole new sport where you feel self conscious and intimidated, and lack a lot of confidence (don’t worry, we’ve been there too).
Which is why we’ve created these groups in the way we have;
You’ll be in a group with people at the same level in the surfing journey as you, in a nurturing, massively supportive environment throughout.

A STRUCTURED, OUTCOME-ORIENTED PROGRAM
All of the program material has been structured in a way to guide you through the key progression steps to help you improve - with the correct fundamentals - as fast as possible.
Multiple in-water coaching sessions, in depth theory, online training and at-home practice.
ALL AGES*, ALL SIZES & ABILITIES
We welcome you all.
We've helped women of all ages - from fifteen to sixty+.
All abilities & agilities too.
We're here to give you the support and the guidance you need.

WHY CHOOSE THE HOUSE OF SURF?
The House of Surf was originally founded on the basis of helping more women get into the sport of surfing, to help them feel nurtured and less intimidated in the water.
And this core mission is still at the forefront of everything we do today.
Having helped literally hundreds of women in the Bay of Plenty alone (not to mention many more overseas) take their first steps into the sport of surfing, plus being home to the biggest community of women surfers in the Bay of Plenty (730+), we are THE go-to place for women to learn to surf - and improve - in the whole of New Zealand.

WHAT PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SAYING...

MANU BENNET/
MT MAUNGANUI
Being a late starter I was apprehensive about learning to surf, this team made it a safe and encouraging environment to learn in.
I felt well supported and the online support was an asset.
So good that I’m going on to do the progressive beginner course.
Thank you

Had a fantastic time with the crew at House of Surf.
Awesome, encouraging team. The way that they teach and support really makes it so easy to learn and love it!
If you’re little scared, don’t be, it is a life changer.

A fun and supportive way to learn the basics of surfing with professional instructors and a really keen group.
I would recommend House of Surf to anyone looking to get comfortable riding waves on their own for summer

OUR APPROACH
We approach surf coaching a little differently to most...
To us, surfing is more than just pop-ups and cutbacks. Sure, these things are important (and we cover them in depth of course), but there's just so much more to surfing than this.
That's why we take a more holistic approach - using surfing as the medium to empower kids in all areas of their lives.
Which is why we centre all our programs around our unique eight-pillar system that focuses on far more than technique alone, to create a safe and nurturing space for kids to push themselves and enjoy everything surfing has to offer.

COVID STUFF

If Covid-19 affects your attendance at one of our weekend courses what we’ll do is reschedule you into the next available vacant dates.
If you’re still not able to attend the future course date we'll then issue you with a full credit note for 100% of the payment amount (valid for 12 months).
So once things have blown over you can hop back in where you left off
No, you don't need proof of vaccination to attend the course.
This is a tricky one and out of our scope of control unfortunately.
However, many accommodation providers have very flexible terms with their bookings in relation to any Covid-19 related cancelations.
So be sure to check the terms with your accommodation if needed beforehand.
Mask wearing is not mandatory to participate in the course as we'll be outdoors throughout.
If you want to wear one though you are free to do so at your own discretion.
FAQ'S
Please refer to our Terms and Conditions here.
Yup for sure, we have a huge range of surfboards that you can use for the duration of the course ranging from 6ft- 9 ft.
Yes, we have plenty of wetsuits to keep you warm should you need to use one.
Unfortunately, dealing with Mother Nature isn’t always predictable and flat days are a possibility (although unlikely).
In the even that the conditions look too flat for us to run the course we’ll have to postpone it until the next release date.
To give as much notice as possible we’ll make the call no later than three days out from the start date.
We can’t unfortunately take any responsibility for any costs incurred with accommodation cancelations so be sure to take that into consideration when/if booking accommodation.
Over the weekend we’ll be surfing four times.
Three of the sessions will be recorded and broken down with video analysis, and the fourth session is more of a free surf/expression session.
Yup for sure.
We’ll be recording all the waves from the first three sessions and breaking them down in detail with the group.
Regardless of the weather we'll be out there making the most of it.
Yes. the two-day course follows our signature program material - tried and tested on hundreds of students already in our signature women's five week programs.
The material is structured in a way whereby each step builds on the last, with a cohesive progression workflow throughout.
None of the fluff, only the good stuff
All participants must be able to swim. A moderate fitness level is sufficient.
We meet at the House of Surf HQ in Mount Maunganui, opposite No. 27 Marine Parade.
We operate with a ratio of no more than one coach to six students - oftentimes the ratio will be much less.
