TECHNICAL SURFING, TAUGHT SIMPLY

Surfing can be a scary, intimidating sport at the best of times, & and lets face it; it's just damn hard.  In fact with so many variables at play in the ocean it’s no wonder people struggle, with many never even giving it a go at all.

And that’s where we step in…

At the House of Surf we understand how difficult it can be surfing in a male dominated environment, surrounded by all of that macho bravado.  Not to mention all of those dreaded feelings of embarrassing yourself, feeling self conscious not knowing what to do, and fears of looking silly.

But don’t worry, we’ve created the perfect learning environment for you:

The 5-Week Green-Wave Rider Program takes a small group of likeminded women - at the same stage in the learning cycle - through a structured program where you’ll learn exactly what you need to know - at the right time, and in the right order - to empower you with skills to progress as quickly as possible.

Through our detailed progression roadmap our qualified surf instructors will breakdown all of the technical, complicated surf jargon and deliver it to you in a step by step format that’s super easy to follow, all in a 100% non-judgemental learning environment.

And if that’s not enough, we have a fully fledged online learning portal - with detailed breakdowns, home workouts & practices - to nurture you for your 5-Week surfing journey.

WHAT TO EXPECT

As a Green-Wave Rider we leave the basics behind and shift our focus to progression.

That means leaving behind the basics of popping-up, paddling, and whitewater surfing, and instead focusing our efforts on getting you to a place where you can:

  • Easily & consistently catch green waves unassisted - without nose-diving each time.
  • Trim & pump across the face of a green wave - on your forehand and backhand.
  • Start to perform carves and cutbacks on the open face of a wave.

This is where surfing starts to get really frickin exciting!

We'll teach you how to differentiate between a which waves you should be selecting, and more importantly which waves to avoid.

You'll learn the techniques to take off on steep drops, and make them time and time again.

This program is designed to set you free on your surfing journey, filling you with the skills and confidence to surf alone, or in crowded line-ups, where you're able to feel comfortable and compete for waves.

What's more, we aim to get you to the place where you're totally at ease and feel like you belong at any line-up you paddle out to, anywhere in the world.

This program has been built from the ground up to guide you through this phase in your progression, and we’re here to help you every step of the way.

BUT THAT'S NOT ALL...

BECOME PART OF THE TRIBE

By signing up to the 5-Week Program you become part of the tribe.

You’ll get instant access to an in-group private WhatsApp group, as well as access to the Bay of Plenty’s biggest women's surf community too.

With these resources at your disposal you can reach out for advice, hook up for surfs with women in the area, get notified about up-coming community surf events, and much more.

NON JUDGEMENTAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

We understand how it feels to start a whole new sport where you feel self conscious and intimidated, and lack a lot of confidence (don’t worry, we’ve been there too).

Which is why we’ve created these groups in the way we have;

You’ll be in a group with people at the same level in the surfing journey as you, in a nurturing, massively supportive environment throughout.

A STRUCTURED, OUTCOME-ORIENTED PROGRAM

All of the program material has been structured in a way to guide you through the key progression steps to help you improve - with the correct fundamentals - as fast as possible.

Methodically working from one stage to the next.

During the program you'll get weekly in-water coaching, online training and at-home practice.

ALL AGES*, ALL SIZES & ABILITIES

We welcome you all.

We've helped women of all ages - from *15 to 60+.

All abilities & agilities too.

We're here to give you the support and the guidance you need.

*15 is the youngest age we allow into the programs.

ACCELERATED PROGRESS

  • You'll learn how to 'knife-in' to unbroken waves - the right way.
  • Understand the little known 'See-Saw' principle, and how it'll paradoxically drastically improve your success rate dropping into waves.
  • Bottom Turns
  • Duck Diving
  • Trimming
  • Understand how to find the power pockets within the wave, and how to generate your own speed.
  • Carves
  • Learn how to start incorporating your rails into your surfing - increasing drive, maintaining speed, power and flow.

WHY CHOOSE THE HOUSE OF SURF?

The House of Surf was originally founded on the basis of helping more women get into the sport of surfing, to help them feel nurtured and less intimidated in the water.

And this core mission is still at the forefront of everything we do today.

Having helped literally hundreds of women in the Bay of Plenty alone (not to mention many more overseas) take their first steps into the sport of surfing, plus being home to the biggest community of women surfers in the Bay of Plenty (600+), we are THE go-to place for women to learn to surf - and improve - in the whole of New Zealand.

OUR APPROACH

We approach surf coaching a little differently to most...

To us, surfing is more than just pop-ups and cutbacks. Sure, these things are important (and we cover them in depth of course), but there's just so much more to surfing than this.

That's why we take a more holistic approach - using surfing as the medium to empower women in all areas of their lives.

Which is why we centre all our classes around our unique eight-pillar system that focuses on far more than technique alone, to create a safe an nurturing space for you to push yourself and enjoy everything surfing has to offer.
