Over the past 12 months or so we kind of become obsessed with systems and roadmaps.
I know what you’re thinking - Nerd Alert!
And you’d be right, we are nerds…
Surf Nerds.
And that’s why there’s been some BIG changes going on behind the scenes.
A PATHWAY FOR EVERYTHING
In the world of surf schools there’s a tendency to kind of get everyone together, chuck them in a group and just go surfing.
Teach’em the basics - how to pop up, catch waves and all that - then just go free surfing and see what happens.
We’ve been guilty of this in the past, but not anymore.
Throughout last year we’ve been super busy behind the scenes building systems.
Step by step pathways for all our students, with crystal clear instructions, and a logical roadmap to follow.
Across all our programs, all our squads, lessons, camps and everything in between.
From now onwards, if you come to us there is a structured progression pathway you’ll be following.
DOUBLING DOWN
Furthermore, we’ve doubled down on the online components too.
Yup, now all our squads and programs are now backed up with a comprehensive online course elaborating and expanding upon all the beach and in-water tuition.
This allows us to reinforce what’s learned in each session, and helps those people that learn in different ways.
We’re pretty proud of this evolution, which is going to be shipped across all our products this season, so be on the lookout for that.
LEVELLING UP
Ok, so to marry alongside our newfound systematic approach we’ve adopted a new levelling system.
In order for us to know where you are in the progression cycle, we need to know where you’re at right now.
So all our squads and programs now follow a clear level system for better categorisation.
We have four levels, and if you’re not sure what level you’re at you can find out here.
EVOLUTION
Now you might notice that we write a lot of blog content and publish a few YouTube videos from time to time (soon to be much more).
And slowly but surely we’ve been building up a substantial following from eyeballs all over the world.
With over 100,000 YouTube views and over 18000+ website views a month to our website, we’re realising that we’re no longer the little surf school in Mount Maunganui anymore, and our reach is much bigger.
For that reason, soon we’ll be making a few adjustments to our website in the near future to help serve our entire audience - local & international - in a better way.
Our goal is to share our systematic approach to getting better at surfing with as many people as we can. We’ve got some exciting things coming down the pipeline on this front that we’re super pumped about which we'll let you know all about when we go live.
WE’RE DIFFERENT, AND WE’RE OK WITH THAT
We’ve kind of realised recently that yup, we are different.
We don’t really want to be normal, and do things the normal way - and we’re totally ok with that.
We don’t want to be just a ‘normal’ surf school, we want to be better than that.
For that reason we’re happy to create a bit of distance between ourselves and the generic surf schools out there, happy to move away from the cheesy ‘learn to surf’ B/S that doesn’t reflect real surfing whatsoever.
And double down on what we’re good at.
So instead of poo stances, and shakka’s to the beach - we wan’t to teach you the good stuff, the real stuff.
The stuff you actually need to know to get better.
Real surfing, real progression.
THE BIG SPLIT
Because of all the epicness above, a natural divide has occurred - local, and international.
Naturally, only our local audience in NZ can attend any of our coaching weekends, programs, squads etc.
For this reason our social media accounts are changing a little.
From here onwards our default social accounts (the ones you may be following already) will serve our entire community - local and international.
These channels will see an increase in educational material, with tips, tricks and hacks to improve your surfing.
And to serve our local NZ community better we’ll be shifting to more local based content - local events, programs, courses, squads, features etc. to our new social channels
Here’s our new social media structure moving forward:
LOCAL NZ & INTERNATIONAL
So if you want to keep up to date with all the good things we have going on locally, go give us a follow on the new accounts to stay in the loop.
WRAPPING IT UP
That’s pretty much about it for now.
We have some pretty big changes coming up soon, so we’ll be in touch about all that when it happens.
But that’s all for now.
Yew!
