THE START OF A SURFING JOURNEY...

Surfing has got to be one of the healthiest sports a child can do; fresh air, sunshine, and an immersion in nature - it doesn't get any better.

But, for many young boys - the prospect of surfing is fraught with fear.

The fear of waves, wiping out, and being held under water.

And, it's often at this point in the surfing journey where a child can be put off for life if they have even the slightest negative experience.

And that’s where we step in…

At the House of Surf we understand how pivotal this stage can be, and we've created the perfect learning environment for young boys to take these first baby-steps into the sport of surfing.

Our Micro Boys Squad takes a small group of young boys - at similar stages in the learning cycle - through a weekly squad format, where they'll connect with other young likeminded groms, learn new skills each week, build confidence, and improve.

All in a safe learning environment with qualified surf instructors breaking down all of the technical, complicated surf jargon, delivering it to your boy/s in a fun, easy to understand format that's super easy for kids to follow.

And don't worry, we know how quickly kids at this age lose concentration and that's why we've structured these squads in a way that's filled with fun, games and excitement throughout.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Each week the group of young boys will be given fun challenges and instruction to build up their skills and confidence.

Over time they'll build up a solid technical surfing foundation - something they can take with them for life.

Sure, our aim is to arm your child with the technical skills to be able to catch their own waves and ride them to the beach.

But, our biggest goal - above all else - is to empower each boy with the confidence to be in the waves, and - more importantly - instil the love of surfing into their lives.

A FEW THINGS THE GROUP WILL BE LEARNING...

  • Board control, and how to stay safe in the water - alone, or assisted.
  • The right way to pop up - quickly and effectively every time.
  • Which waves to catch & why.
  • How to paddle like a pro and catch whitewater waves with ease.
  • The sometimes strange rules of surf etiquette.
  • Ocean awareness and confidence techniques to stay safe in the water.
  • Much more...

BUT THAT'S NOT ALL...

NON JUDGEMENTAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

We understand how it feels to start a whole new sport where you feel self conscious and intimidated, and lack a lot of confidence (don’t worry, we’ve been there too).

Which is why we’ve created these squads in the way we have;

Your son will be in a group with boys at the same age & level in the surfing journey as him, in a nurturing, massively supportive environment throughout.

WHY CHOOSE THE HOUSE OF SURF?

The House of Surf is a surf school with a twist...

...we steer clear of cookie-cutter tuition, and are bold and innovative in the way we teach - constantly looking for the new and exciting ways to teach the sport we love.

We live and breath the concept of individualised coaching in a group environment and we're constantly at the forefront of innovation in the sport.

Our trained instructors have helped literally hundreds of kids take their first steps into the sport of surfing, guiding, and nurturing each child along the way.

Which is why we've become the fastest growing surf school in Mount Maunganui (possibly even NZ), and why we're rated #1 on Google too 👊

OUR APPROACH

We approach surf coaching a little differently to most...

To us, surfing is more than just pop-ups and cutbacks. Sure, these things are important (and we cover them in depth of course), but there's just so much more to surfing than this.

That's why we take a more holistic approach - using surfing as the medium to empower kids in all areas of their lives.

Which is why we centre all our programs around our unique eight-pillar system that focuses on far more than technique alone, to create a safe and nurturing space for kids to push themselves and enjoy everything surfing has to offer.
