TECHNICAL SURFING, TAUGHT SIMPLY

Learning to surf can be scary, intimidating & and lets face it; just damn hard.  In fact with so many variables at play in the ocean it’s no wonder people struggle, with many never even giving it a go at all.

And that’s where we step in…

At the House of Surf we understand how daunting it can be taking those first steps into a whole new environment, with all of those dreaded feelings of embarrassing yourself, not knowing what to do, and fears of looking silly.

But don’t worry, we’ve created the perfect learning environment for you:

The 5-Week New Surfer Program takes a small group of likeminded women - at the same stage in the learning cycle - through a structured program where you’ll learn exactly what you need to know - at the right time, and in the right order - to empower you with skills to progress as quickly as possible.

Through our detailed progression roadmap our first class surf instructors will breakdown all of the technical, complicated surf jargon and deliver it to you in a step by step format that’s super easy to follow, all in a 100% non-judgemental learning environment.

And if that’s not enough, we have a fully fledged online learning portal - with detailed breakdowns, home workouts & practices - to nurture you for your 5-Week surfing journey.

WHAT TO EXPECT

As a new surfer, we start the program with the absolute basics.

We’ll help you get up to speed with all the complex terminology, and teach you everything about equipment, etc to get you over that first hurdle, and give you that initial key knowledge to get you out of that absolute beginner stage.

From here, we then set out on our technical roadmap to teach you through our system.

Step by step you’ll be guided through the key steps of progression to help build a solid, technical skillset to help you progress to the next level.

Each week building on the last; you’ll have one in-water lesson with your group, alongside online learning lessons and home practice routines.

And by the end of it...

…You’ll have the skillset needed to:

  • Feel comfortable & confident in the water with the group (as well as surfing alone)
  • Paddle and catch your own broken waves - without any assistance.
  • Consistently ride broken waves standing up with full control

All with the correct fundamentals right from the off-set.

This is the very start of your surfing journey, and we’re here to help you every step of the way.

BUT THAT'S NOT ALL...

BECOME PART OF THE TRIBE

By signing up to the 5-Week Program you become part of the tribe.

You’ll get instant access to an in-group private WhatsApp group, as well as access to the Bay of Plenty’s biggest all-womens surf community too.

With these resources at your disposal you can reach out for advice, hook up for surfs with women in the area, get notified about up-coming community surf events, and much more.

NON JUDGEMENTAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

We understand how it feels to start a whole new sport where you feel self conscious and intimidated, and lack a lot of confidence (don’t worry, we’ve been there too).

Which is why we’ve created these groups in the way we have;

You’ll be in a group with people at the same level in the surfing journey as you, in a nurturing, massively supportive environment throughout.

A STRUCTURED, OUTCOME-ORIENTED PROGRAM

All of the program material has been structured in a way to guide through the key progression steps to help you improve - with the correct fundamentals - as fast as possible.

Weekly in-water coaching, online training and at-home practice.

ALL AGES*, ALL SIZES & ABILITIES

We welcome you all.

We've helped women of all ages - from fifteen to sixty+.

All abilities & agilities too.

We're here to give you the support and the guidance you need.

  • You’ll learn how to select and catch waves unassisted in the white water
  • How to stall and accelerate the board
  • Master the 'Aussie Pop Up' method
  • The proper stance which will allow you to perform turns and progress onto catching unbroken waves
  • Work on agility and prediction drills
  • Turning left and right in the white water
  • Understand etiquette and know how to confidently and safely deal with any situation which may present itself to you
  • Board management and control
  • Ocean awareness
  • Much more...

WHY CHOOSE THE HOUSE OF SURF?

The House of Surf was originally founded on the basis of helping more women get into the sport of surfing, to help them feel nurtured and less intimidated in the water.

And this core mission is still at the forefront of everything we do today.

Having helped literally hundreds of women in the Bay of Plenty alone (not to mention many more overseas) take their first steps into the sport of surfing, plus being home to the biggest community of women surfers in the Bay of Plenty (600+), we are THE go-to place for women to learn to surf - and improve - in the whole of New Zealand.

OUR APPROACH

We approach surf coaching a little differently to most...

To us, surfing is more than just pop-ups and cutbacks. Sure, these things are important (and we cover them in depth of course), but there's just so much more to surfing than this.

That's why we take a more holistic approach - using surfing as the medium to empower women in all areas of their lives.

Which is why we centre all our classes around our unique eight-pillar system that focuses on far more than technique alone, to create a safe an nurturing space for you to push yourself and enjoy everything surfing has to offer.
