5 WEEK SURF PROGRAM
STARTING SEPTEMBER 26TH
*FIRST PROGRAM FOR 2022/23 SEASON*
JUST THE GIRLS!
TECHNICAL SURFING, TAUGHT SIMPLY
Learning to surf can be scary, intimidating & and lets face it; just damn hard. In fact with so many variables at play in the ocean it’s no wonder people struggle - with many never even giving it a go at all.
And that’s where we step in…
At the House of Surf we understand how daunting it can be learning to surf in an intimidating, male dominated environment, with all of those dreaded feelings of embarrassing yourself, not knowing what to do, and fears of looking silly.
But don’t worry, we’ve created the perfect learning environment for you:
The 5-Week Progressive Beginner Program takes a small group of likeminded women - at the same stage in the learning cycle - through a structured program where you’ll learn exactly what you need to know - at the right time, and in the right order - to empower you with the skills to progress as quickly as possible.
Through our detailed progression roadmap our qualified surf instructors will break down all of the technical, complicated surf jargon and deliver it to you in a step by step format that’s super easy to follow, all in a 100% non-judgemental learning environment.
And if that’s not enough, we have a fully fledged online learning portal - with detailed breakdowns, home workouts & practices - to nurture you for your 5-Week surfing journey.
WHAT TO EXPECT
With the Progressive Beginner Program we skip the absolute basics (we cover all that in our New Surfer Program), and focus on building on your current skillset - arming you with the technical knowledge to take your surfing to the next level.
That means getting you to a level where you're:
This is where surfing starts to get really frickin exciting!
We'll help you learn which waves to select and why, and more importantly which waves to avoid!
You'll learn the techniques to navigate through broken waves with ease to make it out the back.
You'll also learn exactly how to take off on an unbroken wave, pop-up instantly, and successfully navigate the drop - consistently.
Each week building on the last; you’ll have one in-water lesson with your group, alongside online learning lessons and home practice routines.
All with the correct fundamentals right from the off-set.
This program has been built from the ground up to guide you through this phase in your progression, and we’re here to help you every step of the way.
BUT THAT'S NOT ALL...
BECOME PART OF THE TRIBE
By signing up to the 5-Week Program you become part of the tribe.
You’ll get instant access to an in-group private WhatsApp group, as well as access to the Bay of Plenty’s biggest women's surf community too.
With these resources at your disposal you can reach out for advice, hook up for surfs with women in the area, get notified about up-coming community surf events, and much more.
NON JUDGEMENTAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
We understand how it feels to starting a new sport where you feel self conscious and intimidated, and lack a lot of confidence (don’t worry, we’ve been there too).
Which is why we’ve created these groups in the way we have;
You’ll be in a group with people at the same level in the surfing journey as you, in a nurturing, massively supportive environment throughout.
A STRUCTURED, OUTCOME-ORIENTED PROGRAM
All of the program material has been structured in a way to guide you through the key progression steps to help you improve - with the correct fundamentals - as fast as possible.
Methodically working from one stage to the next.
During the program you'll get weekly in-water coaching, online training and at-home practice.
ALL AGES*, ALL SIZES & ABILITIES
We welcome you all.
We've helped women of all ages - from *15 to 60+.
All abilities & agilities too.
We're here to give you the support and the guidance you need.
*15 is the youngest age we allow into the programs.
WHY CHOOSE THE HOUSE OF SURF?
The House of Surf was originally founded on the basis of helping more women get into the sport of surfing, to help them feel nurtured and less intimidated in the water.
And this core mission is still at the forefront of everything we do today.
Having helped literally hundreds of women in the Bay of Plenty alone (not to mention many more overseas) take their first steps into the sport of surfing, plus being home to the biggest community of women surfers in the Bay of Plenty (600+), we are THE go-to place for women to learn to surf - and improve - in the whole of New Zealand.

Loz is the best teacher I could have asked for, providing the right amount of information, being super positive and encouraging and just overall an excellent coach.
The progressive beginner course has been a game changer and I’m looking forward to an exciting surf journey.
Thanks Loz, keep on the good work connecting and encouraging women who surf
I can't speak highly enough of Loz and her team at House of Surf, they are totally awesome!!!.
I started off on the beginner surf program before Christmas and improved both in my ability and most importantly my confidence and that was all down to Loz.
I am well and truly bitten by the surf bug and have now joined their progressive beginner course and am continuing to improve and am having such a great time too!
Loz is so patient and makes sure everyone has their 1:1 time each session.
I am so glad i found them!!
We approach surf coaching a little differently to most...
To us, surfing is more than just pop-ups and cutbacks. Sure, these things are important (and we cover them in depth of course), but there's just so much more to surfing than this.
That's why we take a more holistic approach - using surfing as the medium to empower kids in all areas of their lives.
Which is why we centre all our programs around our unique eight-pillar system that focuses on far more than technique alone, to create a safe and nurturing space for kids to push themselves and enjoy everything surfing has to offer.
The 8-Pillar Method
Due to the structured nature of the program - plus the fact that our other programs have their own dynamic and are generally full - we can't offer make up lessons.
However, we back up each in-water lesson with thorough, in-depth breakdown's in our online learning portal. That way, even if you miss a session, you'll have access to all the teaching online as a back up.
Yes, we are able to supply soft top surfboards.

Sometimes we even jump into the pool to practise our breathing.
Flat days give us an opportunity to work on the other areas often overlooked in surfing.
Your activity will run rain or shine.
