WORKING FOR THE HOUSE OF SURF
Welcome on-board the House of Surf team, we're pumped to have you as part of our coaching staff.
But before you actually get started, it's important that you're up to speed on how things work, how much you'll get paid, and our process for paying you for the work that you've done.
Everything you need to know can be found below.
HOW MUCH DO I GET PAID?
Your age, level of experience, and coaching role in a session will dictate the amount you will earn.
Below is a table explaining the pay-rates for the differing roles and levels of responsibility.
JUNIOR COACH (under 18)
SESSION TYPE DEFINITIONS & DURATIONS
EVENTS & HOLIDAY CAMPS
The pay rate for our events and holiday camps are categorised a little differently from our individual session rates above.
Instead of the pay rate being derived from the session as a whole, it shifts to an hourly rate instead.
Below is a breakdown of the hourly rates for our different coaching levels:
JUNIOR COACH (under 18)
WHEN DO I GET PAID?
Payroll takes place every Tuesday.
To make sure you get paid on time please make sure that your invoice has been sent to the House of Surf no later than 11:59pm on a Monday.
Failure to get your invoice to us on time may lead to delayed payment.
HOW TO GET PAID?
When you work for the House of Surf you are classified as a subcontractor, which means that you bill us for your time.
This is done by logging the work you've done and invoicing the House of Surf at the end of the week.
It might sound complicated but it's actually really easy to set up, and whats more, it can also be beneficial with regards to offsetting certain expenditures against your tax.
GETTING SET UP AS A SUBCONTRACTOR
Getting set up as a subcontractor is actually really simple.
Here's what you need to do:
- Get yourself set up as a sole trader (takes about five minutes).
- Get set up with some accounting software. We recommend Wave Apps as it's free, and simple to use.
And that's about it really.
Once you're set up, all you'll need to do is log the work that you've done, and send us an invoice at the end of each week.

INCENTIVES & BONUSES
We have an in-house incentive program to incentivise our coaches to deliver an epic service, make repeat sales, and earn extra income from sending leads to the House of Surf.
Here's how our incentives & bonus structure works.
If our customers make repeat bookings after taking a session with you, we see this as a clear indicator that you provided an awesome experience.
And we want to reward you for that.
We keep track of these repeat bookings and their associated rewards using our in-house coupon codes (we'll get you set up with yours before you start)
The coupon will gift your students a 5% discount on their next purchase, and you'll get paid 5% of the purchase price too.
Here's how it looks in practice:
You take a group lesson with eight students. They absolutely love it.
At the end of the lesson you do a closing pitch and give the students their discount promo code.
Six of the students want to come have another lesson and they book in using your code. Total booking cost $600.
5% of that purchase price will be rewarded to you: Total $30
As a House of Surf Coach you'll be enrolled in our affiliate program.
What's an affiliate program?
It's a program whereby you get paid a commission on any new sales that you personally generate outside of the surf school.
That can be things like social media, blog posts, Youtube etc.
Here's how it works:
Once you're set up with your own affiliate account you're generated your own unique URL specific to you.
Anyone that clicks on that URL is tracked and assigned to you using cookies.
If that person turns into a paying customer you'll be rewarded for the sale.
Our affiliate commission payout rate is %10.
